I began my campaign to get back in shape rather suddenly today with a 5K race on the Silver Comet Trail. To say that I actually ran a 5K is a little deceiving. In actuality I ran most of the first mile, then alternated walking and running in 2-3 minute intervals. I finished with a time of 35:12 which I consider terribly slow, but it gives me a mark to improve upon. It is my goal, through consistent running and physical activity, to cut that time down to 21-22 minutes over the next several months.

There is an old saying that if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that it’s probably the worst thing you’ll do all day. Brian Tracy uses this metaphor in a book by the same name (Eat That Frog!) to describe tackling the most challenging task of each day – the one most likely to be procrastinated, and yet the one most likely to have the greatest positive impact in our lives. Running and getting back into shape is my frog.
